Picked mine up at the garden centre the other day, the usual
Charlotte and Kestrel, plus I thought I'd try a few Lady Christl and some Nadine, the latter recommended by one of our plot reps as being really good on our soil. Looking forward to the results  :)

Seed potatoes are just potatoes grown and dug up the previous year and saved in the best conditions for you to plant this year.

The difference to your own crop are that certified seed potatoes have been grown in areas of the country where conditions mean they are unlikely to be infected by aphids, which spread diseases. They are also checked regularly during their growing period so that they can be tested and certified as disease free.

Ive havnt got mine yet  im still digging the plot...
Im not understanding how the seed potato is made from suppliers, ive read that its a potato thats chopped in half from that yrs growth, then planted ? .....which month? and when is it dug up to supply us ??

They are potatoes harvested the previous year, its just the seed potato suppliers have ideal storage conditions to keep them and have their stock tested to make sure it is not harbouring any nasty diseases.

In theory you can keep your some of own spuds to plant the next year, but most people don't, because of the difficulty in keeping them in good enough condition, plus the very real risk of introducing nasties which then prevent you growing potatoes for years afterwards  :)

Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and be suspected of knowing nothing than opening it and proving it.

My spuds arrived from JBA today. 4kgs of Kestrel and 4 kgs of Desiree.
49 Kestrel and 39 Desiree. That should leave room for a few Charlottes from Wilko's.

Got my usual charlottes, rooster, desiree and maris piper.
Also, doing Sarpo Mira (my first time with them last year), an amazing large and productive crop and also international kidney which cropped very well in bags and pots as an early (Jersey!) and second early.
Trying Red Duke of York this year too, first time.  Might miss my Pentland Javelin Ive grown for a few years, but nice to try a differnet variety.

All from my local Garsons garden centre.
They have a good range and well looked after, from Unwins. Taylors and Albert Bartlett.

My red duke of york have been happily chitting for a week.
Will tomorrow start chitting the IK as an early.

Charlotte 4kg
Kestrel  4kg
Cara  4kg
Sarpo Mira 4kg
Lady Christl  4kg
Estima  4kg

Amour 2kg ..

Anyone got some spare egg boxes?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Been to Seedy Sunday today (help!) and came home with Sarpo Mira & Axona, PFA and Red Emmalie. As if 2 2kg bags of spuds weren't already enough...
