The farmers who grow onions on the Fens always say that onions look nothing until Derby day.

My onion sets are about done, so they came out today.  There are plenty of them, but they are no great size.  I put that down to lack of sun when they were doing most of their growing.  They are spread out drying now and the smallest ones can be pickled onions later in the year.

The onions from seeds are still going in the background and are a decent size.  You can just see them amongst the weeds and the calendula    I pulled the worst of the weeds out, but I need to go back and do a better job when I have more time 



Hey ho, it may not be neat, but its a productive plot    I'm actually doing a fair bit better than a lot of my plot neighbours, so a few weeds aren't doing any harm

I'm not sure when I'll be lifting our onions from sets - I can't even remember where the three plants I managed from seed are, but they're in there somewhere...

The tops have just started to bend down, so it won't be too long before I start panicking!

I've put this picture in my diary, but these are the onions from seed back home for a final dry off.



They are not monsters this year as it has been too dry, but they have vastly out grown the ones from sets
