Getting some exlayers, expecting they may have redmite. Did I read this n here, many moons ago, that cat fle treatment can be used on hens - small drop for body size? Thank you .  nice to be back!

Although it is possible to find an odd mite on the hen they live in the coop not on on the birds. Also at this time of the year they tend not to be active.

IF you find a problem with the mites, it has been said that cat flea treatment can be used to make sure there are no mites on the hens, but it is quite strong, so those that have used it bought the kitten strength one.

Sassy is right though, mites do't usually live on the birds, but it is possible that a couple may hitch a ride.  You would be better off spraying your coop with poultryshield etc, or dusting perches and nest boxes with diatom just to make sure.

Although red mite aren't active at this time of year usually, they can hibernate for up to 38 weeks with no food, so best be safe than sorry in my experience!
