Silkie abandoned eggs

What is the maximum time  she can be off her eggs.  As you know I moved her to a safer place last night but she didn't go back after her constitutional so I had to carry her and put her back on myself.  She was off for about 45 mins maybe a bit longer.  Have I lost the chance of babies do you think with this batch.

I think till she settle down I will put foodand water in the garage and not allow her the freedom of the garden till she is settled a bit more as to where the eggs are now.

Any other thoughts?

Actually, yes.  Wouldn't it be better to have all of this story on just one thread?  Some people still think she is missing!    :)

Oh dear got it wrong again :(  this is fact a different question regarding sitting on eggs etc.

Sorry but I wanted an answer and thought it might not be seen if massed with the others.

Not a problem for me but it does cause confusion.

I'd say you were equally - maybe more - likely to get an answer on an old thread when it pops back to the top.  People like following a story.

If you want to edit the title of a thread, you do it by editing the first post in it.

Mother knows best, well at least lets hope she does. The eggs should be fine but we must realise that not all mothers are good mothers :D

She can leave the eggs for that long and they'll be ok, if it is really cold then maybe not so good but it's mild at the moment so should be fine. I seem to remember from your other thread that there were a lot of eggs so that also means they'll keep warm for longer. Just let her do it her way as, if she doesn't want to sit, she won't and you're better letting her decide!

You could pinch a few of the eggs for the incubator when she leaves the nest and, maybe even try to sneak them back as they hatch, she'll probably accept them if you do it early.

Good luck!

I think it depends how you use the forum menus.  I always use View posts since last visit on the forum home page.

That is the link I store in Favourites too ( http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/search.php?search_id=newposts )

Oh dear she obviously didn't like the move and has abandoned her eggs.  I wish I had an incubator for them.   :(

I have put them in a box with shavings next to my boiler/agga thing which is quite warm all the time to see if it works, don't hold out much hope though.  I see it that I am going to have to  discard them anyway so an experiment is worth a try. :)

I have marked them to turn once a day should I put a pot of water to create a little humidity maybe?

All I can say is watch this space :?

Keeping this thread going then about the eggs.

I turned them today they are nice and warm and I wiped them with a damp cloth on turning (saw a post recommending this) Think its twice a day needed.  I hope the time she was off them yesterday hasn't ruined the chances too much.

I am going to try candling them but not sure how many days into incubation they need to be to get an idea of any chances of success, can someone tell me please?
