mystery herbs
« on: October 04, 2015, 17:35 »
A fellow gardener showed me these herbs today (see picture), which had a most aromatic fragrance but neither he no I know what it is and if it is edible. Any ideas please?

They look a lot like chrysanthemum greens

These are used as a vegetable in Japan and have a floral like fragrance and taste.  Make sure you know exactly what they are before you eat them though  :)

Could be Heartsease.  Bit on the large size though.   Cheers,  Tony.

Hi,
This looks like Feverfew to me. If it is it will have small daisy like flowers and a bitter taste to the leaves, used to relieve headaches. ALWAYS be sure of what it is before tasting it though, goes with any plant.

Don't think it is Heartsease. That is a Viola, low growing and much different leaf shape.

If it is a herb I would go with 'michaalf' and say Feverfew. I used to have a double form of it in my last garden, it used to spring up all over the place every now and again like a weed but very pretty. Not invasive, wouldn't mind having it again here.

TBH the leaves seem a big large for feverfew, at least much larger than the one I have on the plot. Smell some and see, as they have a very distinctive odour

That to me looks similar to how my coriander looks.

Coriander or even celeriac?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I thought coriander or flat leaf parsley at first glance...

My first thought was also coriander or flat leaf pasley. Especially if it is particularly aromatic.

Lovage? Sort of fragrant cross between celery and parsley.
