Following on from peas and beans
« on: August 08, 2015, 14:55 »
Having just removed the peas and broad beans from their plot I now have some room for something else.
Any ideas for late planting great fully received  ;)

I've just planted some dwarf beans in my pea bed - just avoided the actual row that the peas were in and sprinkled some fertiliser on  ;)

Any winter/ spring brassicas. Spring cabbage, kale, turnips. Might find some plants in garden centres or online. Not to late to sow seeds though.

Spring cabbage, black Tuscany kale, a couple of winter caulis  Iron Man calabrese and some Little Gem lettuce went in where my peas have been  :)

I didn't realise you could sow them this late... When would they crop? I have some spare space and plenty of spare seed

Dwarf ones have a chance to mature, say 8-12 weeks from planting. Depends on when the frosts start. If you can protect from frost so much the better.
I will be trying some in the polytunnel again this autumn. Last year they had just started to produced pods the week before the day where the man in the red suit comes to visit good people (phew didn't mention THE word) when a heavy frost did for them :(
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.
