Broad Beans
« on: July 27, 2015, 20:10 »
Most of my broad beans have now gone a bit 'rusty' looking (outer skin) Are the beans still ok for cooking, and ok for freezing for winter stews?

If the beans themselves look okay, I still eat and freeze them (but not necessarily in that order! LOL)

Just cosmetic damage, the beans themselves should be fine

I've managed to freeze 4lbs this week, the remainder can languish on the plants and dry for seed for next year.

How many plants and what variety please?
I had about 25 plants of 'The Sutton' & I got a little over 2lbs
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

They were Imperial longpod. A triple row with 15 to the row, so if you multiply yours up, it would be comparable.

As an afterthought.................. I also leave my beans to get a little on the larger size. I don'tgo fo tiddlers.
