Hens mating

Does it only take seconds for a hen to mate? :oops: Colin (our cocks name) only jumps on the hen for about 3 seconds, if that, there is a lot of feather fluffing once he jumps off

is that all it takes to make a chick?

I have one cockerel, Buster, who likes to take his time, a little courting with tasty morsels, a little dancing around them and then he covers them....followed immediately by the other cockerel who is quick like yours! The second one tries to push the other off but he's smaller so no chance...Buster just likes to take his time and the girls love him! In fact we have 2 henhouses and ideally each cockerel has a few hens but, if I don't swap them at bedtime, they all choose to sleep in Busters house leaving poor Cheekie Chappy alone...although he has been known to sneak in with them all as well!

Never really understand all this competition ...think it's just a boys thing!
