What? Christmas potatoes?

So there I was  - in my local garden centre this morning and I found two baskets full of potatoes. 'Christmas Potatoes', they were marked as. 'Plant in July/August and have new potatoes for Christmas dinner. No chitting required.'
Say what? I haven't often grown potatoes but didn't realise we could plant them at this time of year. Or have I wandered into a parallel universe?

Well I am going to try this this year I am keeping a few of my early potatoes that I am harvesting now ( havnt decided which variety yet) and am going to plant in water tanks and then move into the polytunnel when winter arrives

Further down that thread is a quote from an old post of Iain's that says the latest to plant is the middle of August. Those harvested now would have to wait until mid-September.

The 60 day thing might have scuppered my plans !!
