A couple of years ago I grew a cabbage called Kalibos that is red when growing but turns green on cooking. The cabbage whites left it alone as far as I can remember.

LotuSeed, I cant believe that you manage to grow blueberries without netting.  If mine were not under cover the blackbirds would eat the lot.

Fascinating thread and beautifully illustrates how different everyone's growing conditions are. Even on the same site, different plots are prone to different beasties. Gardening, huh? If it was easy - everyone would be doing it!  ???

I've not netted my sprouts this year...but planted nasturtiums round them.  I'm going to keep an eye on them and rub off any eggs.

I've got PSB and cabbage in that I have netted but only on small hoops so will have to do something a bit higher for PSB.

Kale I haven't netted this year.   Biggest issue with that is pigeons and pheasant, but they seem to ignore it when it gets bigger.

Fruit, I've only netted the strawberries, redcurrants I share with the birds as I inherited the bush and I'm not that keen!  Blackcurrants - don't net, I have loads and the birds seem to largely ignore them.

It's so cumbersome taking the nets down to weed and fixing them back - that I figure a bit of time rubbing off butterfly eggs is probably quicker.
