Anya Potatoes
« on: July 02, 2015, 11:21 »
I think my anya potatoes are ready for lifting - I planted them about 13 weeks ago and the foliage is starting to go yellow. Would appreciate any advice - should I go ahead now or wait, also, how do I store them once lifted ?

Thanks all !

hello, we dug up some of our Anya potatoes this week, they're delicious  :)

Just dig them up as and when needed really, unless you have lots of slug damage in which case take them all up, simply leave them on the the ground for a while to dry off, brush the excess dirt off and keep them in a dark place, a cotton or hessian bag is fine, just make sure not to put them in a plastic bag  :)

Have a little dig under the edge of one plant and see how big the are.

We store our potatoes in hessian sacks in our shed, but it needs to be frost free if you need to keep them into the winter.

EDIT:  I'll second that about plastic bags!

Cardboard boxes work if you haven't got any sacks handy   ;)

I would agree with just lifting them as you want them. They store better in the ground until it is cooler.

If your ground is as dry as mine they will be fine left in.  If it's moist the slugs will have'm.
