Pie without lid.
« on: June 24, 2015, 16:48 »
Thought Id share a failure..

We had some leakage, burnage, breakage and shrinkage. The pastry was a little thin and probably needed a few minutes more in the oven. The mixture needed 1 less egg and was also a little rich, so less (  ) cheese but something sharper next time too.

Still qualifies as food  :)

Quiche i think , did you eat it .
i made paul hollywood scotch pies 8 in the recipe in hot water crust yum you might think , a bit tasteless i thought and it took all after noon keeping the balls of meet chilled while keeping the pastry warm tying up with string and parchmentn i was so hoping they would be good , a wasted afternoon .

Quiche i think , did you eat it .

Not all of it   (I'm not saying there's a lot left either though  :nowink:  )

I looked at some of PH's stuff and like you say - life really is too short.  Id like to eat it if someone else made it  :D

I took Mother Lard some for her dinner and she was even more critical than I was :nowink: including a complaint about the mushrooms in there  ...     ::)

Made a nice change from the usual and also gave me a chance to try out the snasbods 9" tin I bought - surprisingly good quality, and good none stick as the leaked filling didn't weld itself to the tin.

It doesn't look like a failure! It looks pretty good! Quiche filling takes some experimenting to get it how you like it. I find a lot much too eggy and certain things like mushrooms and tomatoes can leak water into the filling if not carefully prepped. But once you find a filling mix you are happy with it is a fairly simple meal and very easy to ring the variations.

If its edible in my book then its a sucess, failure just means it hits the bin even if it goes in the dog then its not been wasted .

In my book it is inspiration!  One day I will get as good as you at pies without lids - and with lids!

Has to be a pie 'with a lid' at the end of the week - someone was reminded by my mother about egg and bacon pie the other day... ::)
...no quish can beat that for Ben i'm afraid!

Plus I have a lot of eggs to use up ;)

Pie with lid? No problem...  :tongue2:

This too had to go in the failure column though.  :nowink:  The pastry was supposed to be puff pastry but as you can see it's far from it  I'll have 1 more attempt from yet another method I found on the web after that I'm all out of plain flour  :(
