Gardeners World Tomatoes
« on: June 11, 2015, 17:57 »
Just been over to the above site and they are trialing a new way with tomatoes, in theory it looks like a winner but time will tell. Let the plant flower and wait for a sucker to form above the truss and take out the leader, the plant will form a truss every two sets of leaves instead of three, and so on etc, Dave
Today i will be mainly wearing no trousers

My second sowings of tomatoes are still quite small, so I'll give this a try to compare with the first lot.

Had a peep at the Gardeners World site but couldn't find the article. Duh! Could you post a link? Cheers.  ::)

I read it this morning and it seemed complicated and made my head hurt  :(

Makes a little more sense now, but I think I'd still get it wrong in practice!

All I could find was the Video here (from 2011?)

http://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/projects/fruit-and-vegetables/how-to-increase-tomato-yields/346.html

But as comments below the vid show, there was never any feedback on the success or not of the method

Bad forum manners Dave - people don't have to reply.
They may have been more likely to reply if you given a link -not everyone has the time to go looking  ::)

Looks interesting in that you need less plant for the same number of trusses, but I suspect you need to be more attentive to the plant in term of cutting it at the right time and then tying in each sucker.

I have 4 different toms in this year and might give a go with one of each variety to compare yield. I didn't know the article was from 2011, I thought it was new for this year so I will give Nick Beardshaw a call to see how the trial went, cheers Dave ps MOS I did wink
