Slug pellets for potatoes
« on: June 07, 2015, 21:55 »
Hi All,

I would like to point out I am a beginner when it comes to growing any vegetables and this first crop of potatoes is my 1st!

I have a plot with some earlies growing (rockets) and some main harvest (king edwards) both are getting along well however the slugs are giving them a hard time. I decided to buy Bayer Garden Bio Slug and Snail Killer slug pellets about 3 weeks ago and this has stopped the snail invasion! However as a beginner when it comes to growing any vegetables do the pellets harm the potatoes in any way? It mentions on the package to keep clear from leaves (which I have done) however some of the pellets are near the stem of the plants (and some are touching). I know this may sound like a silly question but will this poison the plant in anyway?

Thanks.
Nick.

The amount a plant would take up to be harmful to oneself with something such as this is so minuscule its not worth bothering about. This aint Montana :)

I understand why you are worried, but you know where and when to apply anything to your own growing area (or not). Got to be better than any other alternative. YOU know what you are doing as much as you can. Trust that.

... also I don't think they protect the tatties from underground slugs.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Maybe next year you can "plant" a few pellets with your seed potatoes, seagull, and cover both bases.

A nice crop of potatoes is really exciting, isn't it?  :D :D
