Hello all,

Just had another set of chicks hatch!! Horray
I've relocated the 4 week olds into a larger pen, in which they love, however when I go to check on them at dusk and they are always out of pen and perching on all sorts of things in my garage ie window ledge, shelves, bags everything apart from there pen? I keep picking them up and putting them all back in every night! Is there something I should be doing or just let them be??

Their instinct is to perch off the ground away from potential predators at night. Do they have a perch in their pen? If not, try giving them one though they might prefer their newly found spot

How high is the pen Rich?  By the time our chicks were 4 weeks, if they were still inside, the pen sides were a metre high with rigid netting over the top to stop them escaping.  But mostly, because we had quite a few at a time, they had their own brooder shed.

We had to be careful that they didn't get into little spaces and get trapped.

Encouraging them to perch now could pay dividends when they go into the main coop
