Comfrey compost

Hello,

I have just hacked back a bank of comfrey (mostly grown for bees). If I use the chopped leaves directly as a mulch on tomatoes plants, do I need to remove the flowers?

Depends if it is Bocking 14 (which is infertile) - if its common comfrey you might end up  bieing innundated with the stuff if the flowres have seeded...

They haven't seeded but I guess they might just go on to develop seed - a bit like thistles do even after they are cut.

Might be less work in the end to chop the heads off first.

I just hack down the wild comfrey, flowers and all, and drown it all in a container to produce a mush, which I drain off and then add to the other stuff like nettle tea and 6X tea. The rest of the stuff goes on the compost heap for safe keeping!

Seems to work every year...
