Wilting Chilli
« on: May 22, 2015, 21:59 »
Have noticed one of my De Cayenne chillies has started to droop. Only the topmost leading shoots are affected, the rest of the plant appears normal.
There is no sign of insect attack, the plant is watered, and was potted up about a week ago. It is about 15 cms. tall, and has it's first flowers.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this, please?

I would agree with mum, the most likely cause is overwatering. A few years ago, I read that the way to water chilli pepper is to let them dry out and then plunge them in water and then leave them until they dry out again. Whilst this sounds rough, I suppose they originate from somewhere that doesn't have our constant damp environment.

Another vote for overwatering, i let them dry out to the point of wilting before giving them another drink!

Treat 'em mean !

Crikey - my cayenne is doing exactly the same thing! Thanks for the advice and I shall try and dry it out.

I haven't watered it in a while, but I potted them up about a week or so ago. Not watered them since, so maybe when the roots fill the pot they will recover. Odd thing is it's only the De Cayennes that are affected.

Did you water it in to its new pot?

Sounds like lots of fresh wet compost and root system too small to use it quickly. As you say roots need to fill out before they get another big watering.
