I grew some tender and true last year for first time. They were very slow to germinate and did not produce the kind of crop I'm normally used to.
This year I'm growing only White Gem again as I have so successfully done before.
I grow them in the greenhouse in paper tubes with soil from the raised bed they will be transplanted into. They transplant easy like this (no disturbance), the tube method works for me.
This variety seems to start off better.
Some pics below of how I start them off and transplanted in the bed, flanked by sprouts.

Ooooh Snowy, seeds arrived this morning thank you!   So many too!   I am going to put some of them in the fridge like you and others have said too, see if that helps them for next year, although don't know where I'll be by this time next year!

I grew some in paper pots well over a month ago but I put them in the soil too early and only about 6 or seven survived. So I put down seeds in the space but nothing has emerged yet. You have given me some hope that it is not too late. I will germinate some seeds in plastic box and try those.
