sun scorched tomato plants what can I do?
« on: April 27, 2015, 14:18 »
My tomato seedlings (about 4 inches high) have been in the greenhouse each day and taken in at night.  I think they got sun scorched as they are pale yellow with white patches that look like the leaves are burnt.  They don't look too healthy and some of the leaves are a bit curled.  Is there anything I can do to save them?   I will be so sad if I have lost them all, they are a mix of lots of different varieties and I have been so good this year in just growing one or two of each type.  >:(

I use debris netting fixed with small bulldog clips on the outside of my greenhouse to provide shade

I'd stick with them but try to give them a little diffuse shade during the day, they should pull through.

Depending on when you potted them on, it might be worth giving them a little feed just in case they're getting low on nutrients.

mine have done the same, think i got water on the leaves with then got hot. DOH.

mine are now putting on plenty of fresh growth so hopefully will be ok. don't think the sunny days and cold nights are help at the moment.

if you have spare seed i would sow some more now just in case. they don't cost a fortune if you don't need them but if you do you won't be so far behind.

Give them some shade, the damaged leaves won't recover, but any new leaves will be ok.

Nip off as many badly damaged leaves as you can get away with too.

Are they in separate pots, Under?

You could just let them recover on the greenhouse floor for a while during the day, and as said here, you'll probably be OK with a little TLC!

Depending on the number of ok leaves, you could give them a very dilute foliar feed to help with the stress.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
