Folks,

I started growing liquorice last year, principally for the beer making!

After researching, I discovered that not only does it add to the overall flavour and colour, but it can prolong the life of the head.

I had contemplated building a vertical planter with a removable side, this way I could access the root without having to dig and could easily top the planter up with fresh compost.

Having mulled this over I haven't come up with a practical way to do this without the compost simply falling out when I remove the side of the planter.

Planting it direct in the ground is too obvious and harvesting an uncontained root may be more difficult.

Just wondering if anyone has experience of harvesting it?

Hi,

I will be harvesting mine at the end of the year and am dreading it. It will have been in two and a half years and was a year or two old when it was planted. It doesn't seem a very popular plant grown by home gardeners, but am hoping someone here has grown it.

Can the container be tipped onto its side, so that the sliding door is on top when you open it up for harvesting?

There might be less spillage out of the top than the side.
