Allotment in two halfs!

Hi Mal I would think about salad leaves that don't like getting too hot in the summer. The other point is to ensure the soil is well fed and watered as trees may take a lot of nutrients. As to light you might want to erect a simple reflector of some sort that can throw sunlight onto to the shady part of the plot- nothing fancy just perhaps some old white board or a fence panel painted white.

I agree that brassicas and lettuce do well in the shade as will spinach, beetroot, broad beans.  In fact most veg will be fine but they may take a bit longer, just avoid the more tropical stuff like tomatoes.

Not veg, but lots of fruit do well in shade, eg currents and raspberries.
