Thinking of doing this - has anyone else done it?  Is it advisable.  I know grass is nitrogen rich - not sure if this is a good thing!  I have a few bags of it, from first mowing last week, and was thinking that spreading it around the raspberries might be a good use - as a mulch and not as food.

Yep - think its a good idea - I tend to use grass and cardboard to mulch round my rasps. Shallow roots so can be a bit tricky to weed (and I don't like weeding anyhow)

Might as well use them as mulch - wont don't any harm if it not too thick. A thick layer of grass clipping can get surprisingly hot

I generally use my grass clippings as a thin layer mulch for peas and beans.

Don't use grass clippings for anything (not even composting / subsequent mulch) if you use a selective herbicide on your lawn (or get Greenthumb etc. in) unless you are sure the chemicals in it are safe to compost.

Things like Verdone Extra persist through composting and will still kill your plants (maybe not Raspberries, but I wouldn't like to risk it!). The Instructions say not to even put it clippings a Council Recycle bin ...

Thanks all - luckily the grass cuttings are herbicide free so I will be able to use.   Still waiting for that shower to pass ...

I think it is safe to use them after your treated lawn has had a few trims? As said, fresh clippings can get really hot so don't put them too close to the canes and, if possible, put some cardboard or something beneath before putting them on.

yes, that is indeed what the instructions say ("Dispose of first cutting in household waste, not council compost, compost the next three mowings well for minimum 9 months") , but I'm more cautious but only because the chemical in Verdone Extra, Vitax Lawnclear et al is Clopyralid which is similar to Aminopyralid which was responsible for all the problems with contaminated manure a few years ago,.
