Guttering probllem/ advice
« on: March 28, 2015, 12:15 »
Wonder if anyone can give advice on this one....
I am about to put some guttering onto a new shed. I want it to feed into an IBC but the IBC isn't in algnment with the guttering/ downpipe. I hope to attach a photo....the guttering will feed from the roof of the garage on the rhs and the new shed on the left.,the heights are not consistent and one is further forward than the other.
My gut reaction is to somehow convert the diameter of the guttering downpipe and reduce it down to something smaller eg, large hosepipe that is flexible to manouvre to the top of the IBC.....any thoughts?

Ps the rhs garage has a fall on it that feeds from the long edge that is completely in view, whereas the newer shed on the left hand side is coming from the back that is not in view...hope that makes sense...

Try using a waterbutt diverter in the downspout. They usually provide a converter to a hosepipe.

Great idea...thanks  :D
I can't see how they work (think they must be magic)....but yes, that's the answer.

Thanks very much - they're less than a fiver at Wickes!

thanks

Hi
The downpipe just rests against the IBC to give it some stability and to hold the piped together.
I was just about to post actually to ask a question....
I have set it up but when I test it with a hosepipe, the overflow kicks in , some of the water is coming through the diverter as ai can hear it landing in the boottom of the IBC, but some of it is being wasted as it overflows.
I suppose I coulud cut holes in the IBC and have the overflow going into the IBC but that was the purpose of the set up - to avoid this....any thoughts? Hope I haven't missed something obvious :)
Thanks
Phil

Hi, I would of just bought two 45 degree bends for the down pipes, one each and run the down pipe to the IBC cap!
Certainly cheaper than two diverters that will always let water past the diversion point and all the water then gets to the tank, an overflow hole can then be drilled into the cap lip.

If both downpipes went into the IBC,would you be using the water before it would ever overflow. Any overflow next to the buildings might cause damp problems.
