Heinz tomato seeds
« on: March 10, 2015, 18:34 »
I have aquired some Heinz tomato seeds. Will be sowing them tomorrow and wondered if anyone else might be doing the same. They appear to be a strain developed by Heinz, and presumably a plum type as it's what they use for their ketchup. That's as much as I know. Any other info would be very welcome.

I got a packet from Heinz (as in Heinz tomato ketchup!), last year.  I can't remember the variety but it was a plum tomato (although not the same secret variety they use to make their ketchup!)

I never do well growing plum tomatoes though, always get blossom end rot!

Hannah :)

I thought you was joking for a mo there!
Good luck - hopefully they will be as tasty as we presume they'll be.

I grew the Heinz tomatoes from tomatofest a few years ago. I can't say I was impressed. They were bush tomatoes and so took up a lot of space and were attacked by slugs because they sat on the ground. They didn't taste of much either but that might be because we didn't get enough sunshine to ripen them properly.

Good luck. :)
