Happy new Year / Help with raised beds
« on: December 31, 2014, 12:06 »
Hi all,

First of all, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

I've got my new project under way - My mother-in-laws garden / Allotment Woopie! (actually excited, not sarcastic!!) I've taken over the land for her and will get it all nice. Her neighbour used to look after it but when he passed 2 years ago, i've just every now and again given it a tidy up.

As it's almost January so it's time for me to get it tidied again once more to start working on it.. I think January will be lost in terms of sewing to make the box tidy, and January is always an expensive month for me due to family Birthdays,  Christmas etc..

I was thinking about making some raised boxes myself rather than buying them.. Can anyone recommend a type of wood to use which will last a good few years please?

This is the garden stretch i'll be working on, There is two other sides (a giant 3 sides of a square ( |_| ) ) so i'll need to make a few boxes!

It's been quite quiet for me on the garden front as of late because i've been really getting into my wood working as well. I just started on green wood working making spoons and bowls as well, but 2015 will be my allotment year!

Anyways.. back on track Any advise on some good hard solid raised beds would be greatly received!

Happy new year all!
Matt

I used decking boards for ours, which were being recycled by a friend. They are still OK four years later, and are relatively inexpensive to buy, as are gravel boards

I always use 2.4m gravel boards to make 2.4 x 1.2 beds, simples. :)
