Because its an old wives tale and it doesn't work.

I thought it must be!  I'd also heard that horses are scared by the smell of tiger pee - although how they recognise it I'll never know

Couldn't actually see any harm in having a poll about whether Bodger should shoot the fox or try to pee on it

Because the big cats are strictly carnivores, their urine and droppings reflect their diet - and preferred taste.

Bodger, I know it doesn't help you at the moment, but I always used what we call hardware cloth here. It's a very strong, small mesh fencing that you need heavy cutters for. Beasties can't easily rip it open if properly tacked to the fencing and below ground. I still use it for my pigeons against all the hawks and cats that try to rip their way in - and fail.

That's the stuff, Aunt Sally. I use the #2 metal mesh on all doors, screens, etc. to my bird houses. Never had a critter get through that stuff yet, not even mice. It's pricey but worth the peace of mind to keep our prized birds.
