Two years ago I grew a Cape Gooseberry and the fruit was sharp and really tasty, so I was looking forward to some equally nice fruit this year when a friend gave me some seeds from her plant from the previous yeas' fruit.

I don't know if Cape Gooseberries have different varieties but this year's fruit is really tasteless and quite sickly sweet - like sugar water without flavour.

Having grown both, the dwarf cape gooseberry (pruinosa) tastes very different to the giant one (peruviana). Peruviana is the one sold in supermarkets and is tart. The dwarf one is much much sweeter and to me tastes of honey. I like both.

PS Though it's called dwarf, mine got pretty big last year...
