Spots On My Marrows
« on: October 11, 2014, 17:42 »
i have noticed that a lot of the marrows that i harvested later on in the season have spots (look a bit like warts, prob the best way to describe them).

has anyone else experienced this?

while it make a difference to the length of time they will store for?

Could it be where water has been splashed on the fruits as they were growing?

Have you had any hailstones, looks like they've had bits gouged out & it's calloused over. Might not store too well :(

i wouldn't say we've really had any rain until the last couple of weeks, when i guess the skins should have toughened. definitely not had any hail stones until today, but they are now in the garage.

my main concern is about the storage of them. i have far more than i need and would rather give the surplus away than waste them, but obviously don't want to give some away and find all the later ones i've kept rot away and left short.

Those warty things are quite common on marrows/pumpkins/squashes. Nothing to worry about, I am sure they do not affect storage. No idea of cause.
