Glyphosate should do the job, just be careful the spray doesn't go on anything else.

Horseradish. How does one get rid of it? I planted some three years ago and have tried to dig it up every year since but its getting larger and more invasive!
HG, I plan to eat my way through mine  :D
I too dig it all up each year and replant what I think I'll want. It seems to work for me so far.... 4th year with horseradish and no problems, but then my topsoil isn't that deep, so maybe that helps. Knotweed is the only thing we have on our site that has caused anyone any real problems. There are many difficult-to-get-up plants out there. Old well established roots of Globe artichokes and Kiwi fruit are good examples, but again, a determined effort for a couple of hours usually sees the back of them, but I would say a pick axe is the right tool for the job. Forks are a bit too whimpy.

I'll try the pickaxe, the problem is that its not grown thick roots, lots of thin fibrous roots all of which seem to grow again. :(

Horseradish. How does one get rid of it?
There's my way - plant it in a pot, stand that on a concrete slab - and the way some of my mates do it, which i don't condone: plant it in a verge a mile down the road; harvest "at will"

That's how to grow it - not how to get rid of it

Have given up on onions, plot is riddled with white rot fungus. Tried in lots of areas but have never had a good crop. They are cheap enough to buy anyway. I have friends growing cucamelons this year, they are not going to bother again! I tried one and I didn't think them anything special, but that's my opinion, others might not agree. Fennel has been a disaster this year only got two plants to germinate and they are struggling. Celeriac I have tried again this year, but it is still small, only slightly better than other years, any tips anyone, on growing it to a decent size?

I really don't see much point in growing onions - I could never taste the difference between a shop-bought one, and one I'd grown, so agree with you there Comfreypatch.

As for celeriac, our first year plantings showed very small roots, and the next year we kept to the rules, and stripped most of the lower leaves every few days. This year, they're the size of a big orange, and probably won't get much bigger, but they do like a liquid feed, so maybe that's a way to consider next year!

Celeriac are super greedy feeders - i've only been successful in a bed full of hummus (my compost- full of chicken poo and wood shavings)  with weekly chicken poo pellet feeds ;)

Was that from Asbo, Trashco, or Sainsbods and is it ok to use it past its sell-by date?

I mean the mush that is my compost - I have seen it referred to like this and it does kind of resemble the hummous we eat.
But I mean like a soil bulker/improver ;)

I knew what you meant DBG. Not many people seem to use the word these days... one of those words that have been consigned to, well, the compost heap. It was general parlance in the 1970s. Here's a pedantic discussion on the difference between humus and compost... not a lot. :)

I knew what she meant as well - I was just having a giggle with DBG about the misspelling, which made it mean something else entirely  :nowink:

Most supermarket traders spell the chick pea food as houmous. Hummus is more of a phonetic American spelling that ain't quite right over here, yet, and that's before we actually get to how most people in this country actually pronounce the word. And don't even mention quinoa  :)
