Mystery claw loss
« on: July 31, 2014, 09:14 »
Noticed a trail of blood this a m and Chocky has lost a claw.  It must have happened before I let them out this a m as there is blood on the lower perch and where she's walked...

Can't see how on earth she did it... no sharp edges etc...     ?

She's inside today for a while.
One grandma and 4 baby Pekins.

perhaps she slipped off the perch over night and caught it. Once it has stopped bleeding (wound powder helps with this) then let her back out as soon as possible - keeping them separate is not such a good idea unless they are really ill or infectious.
Staffies are softer than you think.

One of my girls Josephine did the same - either fighting (tut) or caught it on something. There was quite a lot of blood all over the place but once she was scratching away happily in the dirt, this staunched the bleeding. I did clean it and puffed some wound powder on it but left her to it as she didn't seem bothered. I checked her yesterday as I have been treating her over the last few months for scaley leg and her stump is fine.  Not a contender for Miss Lovely legs  :(

Quick recovery here too - and an egg! :)
Just wish I knew how so it doesn't happen again.
