Tumbler tomatoes
« on: June 23, 2014, 16:37 »
Afternoon all

My tumbling toms are full of flowers but they seem to die and drop off and no tomatoes are forming. They are in hanging baskets, are well watered and get plenty of sunshine. Are they sterile? Or can I do something to assist them?

Thanks in advance

Given the weather the pollen might be a bit dry, you could try misting them for a bit to see if that helps.

My sweet millions refuse to tumble, it looks really odd to see tomato plants in a hanging basket that are now three feet tall! ::) I always pot up tumblers into square pots and bush varities into round pots so that previous mistakes can't be made  (can they?)

Are they inside or outside?

Could they be too warm? My greenhouse has been up close to 45C with all the doors open and everything. If your hanging baskets are up in the roof it could be heat stress.
