hi does anyone know the benefits of using cold stored strawberry runners

I've not heard of them before, but I wonder whether they are runners which have been in storage until being sent out, and therefore can be sent out at unseasonable times of the year?

I've recently planted out bareroot strawberries that were kept at ~1^oC until shipped and they are supposed to produce a small crop in about 60 days. It's like sci-fi, they are dormant and then burst into life when warmed up.
