Most courgettes are bushy plants that sprawl, rather then climb  :(

You could grow each one in a large pot, they struggle after a while but at least you get a crop

Not much response to that question but thanks for your reply mumofstig. Now that ive had time to study courgette growth they obviously won,t climb so I can get rid of the wire support and let them spread.

Sorry about the lateness of response but we've been on holiday, I regularly grow courgettes up a narrow tripod of canes, they need constant tyeing in but it does work well and it keeps the courgettes clean.. Cheers,   Tony. ;)
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

That's because it didn't need any further response! Mumofstig had given a comprehensive reply in one post. There was no need for any more.  I'm not sure what courgettes Tony grows, but I've never met one that I could tie up some canes.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I've got some seeds from Which? to try out and they are supposed to be climbers.  So far they haven't shown any inclination to climb at all, no tendrils, no twisty stem.  The only way they are climbing is by me tying them in to the canes.

I grew some climbing courgettes last year (Black Forest).  They had one main stem (which I tied into a cane) and the courgettes just grew off the stem at regular intervals.  They ripen from the bottom upwards, so you'd need more than one plant if you wanted lots of courgettes.  Not hugely prolific but don't take up much space.  I suppose you could just let them trail if you were so inclined.  :)
