I planted my garlic in February and it looked like it was growing fine and then in May the leaves started to die off and now I have a row of dead garlic. :( not happy.

Mine were also planted in Feb and are looking good, although I have to say my confidence levels about what is actually happening a few inches underground are diminishing by the minute!

I cheated and bought ready grown ones from the Garlic Farm in their sale.(  The Farm is only down the road from me.   ) All mine have blown over and split the neck and are really pathetic, not had a look at what is happening underground yet though.  May take a diversion later in the week and see what is happening down on the Farm.

I pulled one today, looked fine above ground but there was very little bulb to it at all.  :( Thinking of leaving them a little longer to bulk up, but Im getting twitchy for the space.

Pulled mine today,  average sized bulbs but that's ok. A few were left in the ground  from last year's harvest and they were the biggest, so I'm planning to sow next years very early, say mid august.

A question - how are we,  on this forum,  to compare sizes?  Width of bulb? I'm not too hung up on size, because I usually have too much to use each year.  Although a bigger clove is easier to prepare. Just interested.

Mine were all planted in October. I dug up an early purple wight a couple of weeks ago and it hadn't bulbed up at all, but dug a solent wight yesterday and it was a decent bulb 2" across. All have really bad rust, but I think I've been lucky they didn't rot given the puddles on the surface of my sticky clay over winter.

Planted some cloves from sets indoors as weather was pants up North. They came through a treat but after transplant they shrivelled to some kind of nothingness. Between times I also put some sets directly into the ground and they also carked it. Mum's did exactly the same, though I think she hoed some of hers up by accident.

Apart from very early varieties, I'd say it was far too soon to be pulling up garlic so hardly surprising they haven't bulked up yet.
