Bitter burpless tasty green

Just harvested my first outdoor ridge cucumber and it was quite bitter.

Is this normal for ridge varieties?
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

I grew BTG once, they were very nice!  Can't remember if they were all female though or male and female.  if the latter, did you pick off the male flowers?

Funnily enough I was just reading a Christopher Lloyd book today and he mentioned that sometimes burpless could be bitter.  Hopefully it will just be the odd one!!  I have just planted 3 out today, the first time I have grown them

It's strange, because I harvested it at about 6 inches and only appears to be the half closest to the stem.

The flower end of the cuke seems to be fine with regards to taste

Thing is, out in the open you don't know what it has crossed with - I hope the rest are better.
