nettle tea for swedes
« on: June 05, 2014, 15:55 »
Would you experienced gardeners recomend nettle tea as a feed for swedes as they are a brassica or would they prefer comfrey tea I cant remember what my dad gave them if anything. My soil is well prepared blood, fish and bone applied before sowing, growmore,do you think they would benefit from a feed of something or should i just leave them, they just germinated now.. Thanks

Mine just get a few chicken pellets in the planting hole, and that's it  ;)

Mine get nothing! Over feeding can led to a lot of leaf and nothing below.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I think you may be thinking of nettle tea for brassicas you want to be leafy like cabbage, kale etc. whereas with swedes you want to promote the root so wouldn't want the plant to grow a load of leaves, as DD said, to the detriment of the root.

Save the nettle tea for your leafy greens.

I have to be cheeky and ask. I thought you were rubbish at swedes.  ;) could that be part of the problem.  mine get nothing too and I get rubbish swedes.
