My corn planted in the GH are ok, but the ones I had outside to harden off and have just planted out have brown staining at the base of their stems. I'm sure I have seen this before but can't for the life of me remember if it was ok or not. They have been in 5" pots in good compost and fed with liquid feed and are about 8" high.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Hi Goosegirl, I have a similar problem with mine (i'm suprised one of the Mods havn't commented on this yet) i transplanted mine to 3" pots to grow on, got to about 4" high, then about 2 weeks ago put them outside to harden off! lo and behold they have all succumb to the stem rotting  :(  Was there a cold snap? too much damp? I don't know. i have started some more on the windowsill, just hoping it's not too late.  :)

Just been out to have a look at mine (still in paper pots thanks to the weather!)

They are about a foot tall, and the lowest few inches of all of them is a reddish-brown colour, which as far as I'm concerned is perfectly normal colouration, even though TBH I've never noticed it before.

Brown and soggy would be a different matter of course.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
