Advice on Early Potatoes
« on: June 01, 2014, 22:29 »
Hi I have 3 bags with potatoes growing in them all earlies. All looking good till a few days ago. The leaves on one bags started to go brown on the edges and today all the foliage has collapsed. How do I know if this is potato blight and if it is can they be eaten. Thanks

A picture would help.

Have they had enough water, have they had too much water. Could be all sorts of things but blight unlikely from what you say.

I think it is worth checking at the roots, because some of mine are edible size already  :)

When did you sow them and what variety are they? They take ten to twelve weeks on average, but some will be ready earlier.

Thanks for your replies. I am new to this so not sure what I am doing but am learning. I had a feel around in the bag and potatoes look good so will be eating some this evening.

Hi Missie,

Looks as though it's sorted out, but it might be worth putting your location into your forum profile, so for any future questions we can see whether there's a regional / local explanation for something  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
