I've actually sown a few more squash seeds as I'm not sure the ones that have survived this long, will survive much longer :(

I felt like crying, my runner beans had been started in the green house, potted on and cosseted.  I planted them out two weeks ago and coved them with netting and slug pellets, the whole area is covered with slime and they have eaten half of them down to bare sticks.

I've never understood bringing beans on - stick some straight in the ground Sandy and they'll soon grow away  ;)

It is not too late, Sandy. How disappointing for you though.  :(

But Emma, for those of us plagued with meeces and other small rodents, growing them initially in modules or pots means at least they get a fighting chance. I even take the fat remains of the old inside of the seeds off before I plant them out, as this is a great snack for  a passing rodent.... and they usually chew through the stem whilst eating it too

I too have loads of meeces and have to plant all beans and peas in modules, I put the peas in a washing up bowl and just keep sowing the next lot as they are planted out.  Why cant mice live on slugs  :D The are also my saved seeds and I am really cross that I have to put my hand in my pocket to buy more.

Managed to pot on some neglected tomato plants today, though was under drizzle during the whole process. Opened the blow away greenhouse and found some snails have managed to sneak inside, having a good chomp of the courgettes. Gave them some flying lessons and now all my toms and squash/cukes are living in the greenhouse for now. They cannot go out in this weather, but any progress is to be celebrated.

I'm worried about some of my pepper plants that are still in pint sized pots, the ones that have been potted on are showing considerable improvement but I just don't have the room to pot them all on :(

is it suppose to be a slow start of summer after a warm winter?

in Thurrock, things do not appear to be sulking, but not growing much either.

lots  of strawberry and over winter broad bean and peas are giving very good harvests.

a slow start of summer but it will come and things will catch up!

That is my definition of sulking!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

My 75 yr old mother who stays 1.5 miles away from me last night gave me courgettes, tomatoes, runner beans and aubergines as the seedling I have are puny in comparison. They were all planted around the same time. It's funny as I think of her as being a somewhat haphazard, disorganised type gardener but every year she pulls the rabbit out of the hat and stomps me. She came up with a few peppers that she'd grown and 6 big ripe chillis that were the size of my chilli seedlings??? sulking, huffing plants lol

Although none of my tender stuff is actually outside yet, I find that toms, runner beans, and various cucurbits usually get over their sulk fairly quickly when the weather improves (assuming they haven't been munched by something in the meantime.)

Sweet corn can go into a prolonged sulk if cold conditions are prolonged - they don't necessarily die but don't always fully recover even when conditions improve.

Cucumbers don't waste time sulking, they prefer to just die.  ::)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Have you got yours out yet Jay? This is my first year with cucumbers, and I'm trying to be very cautious with them! Right now they are in their half-way-house (shed with a bright sunny window) and seem ok, but as usual I'm running late with the bed digging, so they might be stuck in there for a while.

Apart from that nothing here is really sulking (apart from onions). Potatoes seem to be doing well in fact - I wish the weeds would sulk a bit though!
