Fork to fork with monty don
« on: May 23, 2014, 22:55 »
Has anyone watched fork to fork? It came up on my utube suggested items and I really enjoyed it. I think it was broadcast some years ago but after the first episode I was hooked until I watched all 3 hours worth! There's a lot about what to do with your fruit and veg as well as how to grow it.

Yep I found on YouTube in the Winter months and like you were hooked and watched the whole series.Same with the Victorian Garden on You Tube but there are one and a half episodes missing so I bought the DVD on ebay to see the lot.

Yes I enjoyed it when it was aired originally. There's a book to accompany it which is also very good, hard & soft back. That's where I started to like Monty.  :D

Thanks Hayleynotts, this is my first season on the allotment and I love to immerse myself into things and was desperate for something like this. It's nice to see what can be done and how to do it.

Thanks for posting Hayleynotts. I just watched all 6 parts and thought it was great.

I don't suppose anyone knows what the variety of courgette (the golden one) he had growing was?

On the first one Monty makes a point of getting his new potatoes on the boil within an hour of digging them up, because he says after that they loose some of the sugars and flavour.  I have not noticed the difference. Does any one know if this has validity?

We just pulled up our first plant of Lady Chrisi for dinner (had about a dozen decent size puds from the one plant). With Mony's advice still ringing in my ears I quickly scooped up the lovely spuds from the soil, ran up the garden into the kitchen, deposited them into the sink and called my wife into action to get them in the steamer before they could call for help. 30 minutes later we sat down to eat our meal with a bowlful of steaming, glistening, white jewels topped with butter and mint. Lovely they were too, but I wondered, if I had been more relaxed and pulled them earlier in the day would they still have tasted as good? I'll never know now because nothing beats the firstfruits!

Thanks for the heads up.
Never seen this series before, just been watching it this morning sitting in my greenhouse out of the rain.

I'm not a fan of Gardeners World with Monty, but as far as veg goes, Monty does treat growing veg nicely and traditionally, just like me :)

Never thought about growing basil in with my tomatoes in the greenhouse.

I always plant basil around my toms & include some Tagettes to keep the white fly off. Seems to work a treat. Which reminds me I've forgotten to sow them.
