If it really does work 'down south' all I can say is your cabbage white's are a darned sight more stupid than the ones we have up here!!

I've seen several of them laying their eggs on the same plant at the same time.

Don't you worry, they do the same here in the SE corner - on the plot and in the garden  :nowink:

I would go for laminating a real cabbage white ,

at least you would know that you have defintely stopped one of the pests ! :)

Haha funny but warped

Funny how people will not kill the adults but squish the caterpillars.
Back in my youth a load of butterfly corpses pinned to a board was normal and not considered warped .

Going to be doing this again this year with the fakes.
They worked perfectly for me and my Dad (ten miles up the road)  last year.
Could say I was cabbage white/caterpillar egg laying free on all my sprouts.

A few gardens down, speaking with a neighbour, said last year was a bad year for the cabbage white/caterpillar , not as bad as 2012 which we agreed was the worst for many years. His are semi covered too, so they tried hard.
At least I know it wasn't a poor year for them.

Just thought I would update the progress since my use of this method.
Its been many years since 2014/2015 that I first tried this.

I have continued to use this method.
For me it has been a great success.
My Brussels Sprouts, the main culprit of attack before I used this method have been caterpillar egg free since.
For me and some neighbours and family I've introduced it also still works.

Have noticed loads of cabbage white flying around this year last month or so and once again as in the last seven/eight years it has been a great success.

The presumption is that it works because cabbage whites are territorial, there not. So you will have to come with a better reason for it working....if it does.

Here is the template that I have always used.
I pop this into word and duplicate to fit on the page multiple times.

I make it so the butterfly prints out as 2.5 inches wide and 2 inches high.
This template is easy to cut round with a pair of scissors.
Like I say above, I print them back to back and cover them with clear tape, hang with thin wire, so they move in the wind.
In fact what I do is attach the wire near to the top of a bamboo cane about four feet high, so the wire stiffens it up in the air position and allows them to move back and forth.

Plus I have just cut a blank template to show how the wire fits through and bends over to secure it.
