Not very exciting to some no doubt but very pleased as first time of growing these. Looking forward to the different foliage to look at too.

Hi evie. They are a bit like spuds in habit but mature a lot later. Never tasted them to be honest but they do sound great. Have a look here for a better description and also where I bought my seed ones http://www.realseeds.co.uk/unusualtubers.html

Mine are about two inches tall Steve, which is about right for this time of the year round here.

They do now grow quite fast, and a drop of water in dry spells does help them on a bit, I've found

Mine are about two inches also. I think we are now out of the threat of frost so hopefully they will now flourish. I will give them a good soaking later. Onions taking priority at the moment. Do any of you earth up at all? Or do I just let them get on with it?

Don't bother earthing them up. They don't need it  :D

It is the third year I have grown them, I would earth them up, But please don't think about digging them up until December I have grown more this year as I love them.

It says on the Real Seeds site that earthing up is thought to increase yields.

They are very nice  :)  Crispy textured a bit like water chestnut and a lemon tang to them.

I think they are best raw, or very briefly cooked e.g. stir fry or fast roasted.  If you boil them like spuds they lose their individuality and could be just spuds  :)

We love Oca. Started off  growing it a few years ago with about 5 tubers. This year I have a large oca patch this year as we have got so many tubers now. I found that as the amount of oca grown has increased it's meant less potatoes are grown each year...

My few are about 3inches high in pots, just waiting to go in the ground. I've got 4 in a bag, and will be earthing up. I might not be able to protect the ones in the ground till December, but I can at least bring the bag into the greenhouse/flat's landing.

They've got lovely leaves. Am very excited about them!  :)
