Acer attacked by Sky Engineer

Hi, looking for some advice.

A very kind Sky TV Engineer managed to slice of a branch of my Acer tree last night  :mad:, it is off the main branch and was the lowest of 3 new branches. The slice looks quite clean and i have put the piece that was chopped of into a bucket of water until I get home tonight.

2 questions for you

* Can I pot on the branch that was sliced off.
* Is there anything I need to do to the established Acer to prevent danage or disease.

I didn't need a Sky Engineer to damage my low-growing red Acer - I just dropped my hedge trimmer on it by mistake!  :ohmy:  :nowink:

Quite a major branch broke off, and overall it looked a bit misshapen for a few years but it looks good again now - didn't even consider treating the wound and it clearly sorted itself out OK.

Trying to root your 'cutting' is possible, but success will no doubt at least partially depend on how thick it is.
