Garden growing more problems ?
« on: May 10, 2014, 10:28 »
I must have a cursed garden, aphids attacking every single fruit tree causing serious leaf curl. Nothing grows without issue tempted to strip the whole garden and just grass it.

Now my usually healthy kiwi has this on, what on earth is it, all help welcome. The plant itself looks ok but this doesnt look good.

Sorry picture is fuzzy I couldnt get it to come out any better

Edited for title typo.

On closer look hubby said these are bugs, look like the same skin/ shell texture as woodlouse. Sat on an almost cobwebby base. Not happy as my kiwis usually look good even if they never fruit

They are scale insects, they live off the sap. They are usually accompanied, and protected
by ants who harvest them for some kind of sweet substance.
Insecticides won't work as they are waterproof and live underneath a waxy substance and
shell like structure.
I would either keep rubbing them off and i mean all, or you could use a hosepipe with a gun
on the end to blast them off, or a pressure washer works a treat on bigger things like trees.
Good luck.
After a 3 year wait i finally have my allotment. HELP! (2/10/11)
