Plastic Greenhouse
« on: May 08, 2014, 15:01 »
Ahhhh just wanted a rant really....My plastic greenhouse has just blown over in my back garden with all my seedlings in it.  All in a mess on the floor in a big heap.  Luckily the plants don't look too bad (cucumbers, toms and butternut squash) but the rest i'm going to have to try to replant and figure out what they are!!!! Not happy  >:(

sorry to hear that. That's why mine is secured onto a wall with hooks so it's only going somewhere if the house blows away :)

It's why they're called blowaways! Mine did it about a month ago - G** knows what I was thinking leaving it out there unsupported. Now it's tied round the BBQ. Last year it was on the grass with its legs tied to bamboo canes.

Never stop learning

My sympathies.

Mine is fastened to 2 drainpipes with nylon string around the top part of it!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Why did no-one tell me they were called "blowaways"!!!! Well at least now I know lol.  This gardening lark has an extreme learning curve sometimes.
It's now a bit more secure with bricks until I can figure out another way to secure it to the fence.

A couple of these screwed into the fence, for the rope to tie onto and hold the greenhouse back with, might do the trick.

One of mine, despite having ground hooks on all sides, did exactly the same thing - it is a horrible sight to behold so I hope you got to salvage some of your seedlings.

Fortunately my seedlings in the blowaway had all been vapourised by a frost the previous night, so it nicely added insult to injury.

My one-section polytunnel has fared better with the plastic covering buried into the ground and, prior to the gales last autumn, lashed to the ground with rope and screw-in tent pegs.

the same thing happened to mine about a month ago, full of seed leaf brassicas. gggrrrrrr.
Its on slabs, so secured it with tesco bags full of sand which I had handy. not pretty but
     working so far. good luck.
keep on digging

My leek seedlings were scattered across the lawn. It's a good job they're hardy little things - scooped up the compost and stuck them back in, and now theyre romping away.  :D

How annoying  :( it's so windy at the moment, lots of my little plants and seedlings have got wind-burned leaves, I started hardening off my half-hardy flower seedlings last weekend. I'm keeping them inside for now until the wind dies down a bit. I hate the wind, it makes me really grumpy and irritable.. >:(

I know they are referred to as "blowaways" and have never owned one and probably never will . . .  read, read, read . . .  before you buy anything research it.  It's unfortunate what has happened but you need to prepare more in advance.

x2 three by four stakes post created into the ground. drill 4 3mm holes (two at the top. 2 at the bottom) then screw the kite to the stakes. There is no way that the wind will shift that lot :) :D :D
May the fork be with you
