Basic slag
« on: May 06, 2014, 18:05 »
Does anyone use this?

If so what do you think of it?

it seems very cheap for what it is, they have it in our lotty shop for £3.50 for a fair sized bag.

I haven't seen nor heard of basic slag since the seventies! Has it made a comeback these days?
I may be Welsh, but I love ewe anyway!

Just in case there is any confusion  the 'basic' refers to the fact that it is high in calcium and therefore quite alkaline, and the 'slag' is a general term for the waste materials which are a by-product of smelting (usually steel.)

Its precise composition varies widely - for that reason it's not easy to say what it's best used for these days, but it's probably best regarded as a source of lime rather than anything else.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
