Do these 'self watering' Aqua Globes work ?
« on: April 29, 2014, 16:37 »
Yesterday in the Pound shop I saw a pair of Aqua Globes, which are supposed to be able to self water a plant. Not sure whether poundshop, poundland, Poundzone or whatever.

Has anybody used them, or similar item from official garden suppliers ?

This year I will have tomato plants in pots in my allotment GH, which I'll not be able to water every day (unlike those in my back garden GH)

I was thinking a couple of these, in each pot would help

thanks

They would probably be OK for what they are advertised for - pot plants etc. But I really think that they would not supply enough water for tomatoes.

They are fine for potted plants, including tomatoes for a couple of days, but not much longer in largish pots as the water gets used up.

You could save the money and use upside down 1l soft drink bottles just the same though

Haven't used one myself but remember how pricey they were when they first came out. Now they're all in liquidation shops. Perhaps the world just wasn't ready for them  ;)

We use drinks bottles.
make a small hole in the lid.
Chop the bottom of the bottle off, but keep it.
Bury bottle lid down in the pot, and when you water fill it up, and pop its bottom back on- stops things falling in and then blocking the hole in the lid.

Lets the water seep out very slowly- means you waste less water when watering, also chose the size of the bottle depending upon the greed of the plant.

Most bottle do a couple of years, and then go in the recycling
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....
