Planting celery - between pea rows?

My logic is there is always a redundant space between rows of peas because you need to allow light down between the pea rows. I don't need to walk between the rows.

I have planted in such a way that the short varieties are "nearest" the sun path and tall varieties behind, so plenty of light getting down between, but will be part shade by the time the peas are up.

The soil is rich in organic material so it holds water well and any excess water celery doesn't use will be taken up by the peas.

Planting my celery plants at a foot apart - a bit wider than usual as the planting is more intense - does that sound like a plan?

Or do I drop back to Plan B, which is to grow lettuces there instead which is also shade tolerant and less demanding on nutrients?

I think the peas are likely to create too much competition for water for the celery; from what I've read about it, it really does like moist conditions.  I'd go for plan B, I think.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The only times I've had success with celery is when I've add copious amounts of manure and compost, also loads of water, I think they were a bog plant originally.
I don't heavily manure the pea bed so the soil conditions would be wrong also.

Lettuce, will always do well, but don't put them too close to the rows, a bit of shade is fine, but totally shielding plants from the sun means they won't grow at all.

thanks for replies - Plan B it is then. Celery is so expensive in the shops so it is worth giving them best conditions.

Is it trench or self blanching celery?

Celery is a water plant and needs copious amounts of the stuff otherwise it gets very stringy. Your peas may not be happy being constantly waterlogged.

I've grown celery for a few years because I love it but it really does need a lot of attention. A lot of mine ends up going through the blender and used as a flavouring in soups.

Plan B will be much less hassle.
