Resowing saved squash seeds

I've saved the seeds from a spaghetti squash to experiment with, I've cleaned them the best I can and left them to dry overnight do they need a period of stratification, or have to be dehydrated or can I just apply compost and wait?

When I harvested the seeds from the big pumpkin last year, the seeds had germinated, rooted and had the first leaves forming inside the pumpkin. I'd therefore say that the fresher the seed the better. The drying process is more to help store them than anything else.

I have had similar with other winter squashes.

Lardy chances are you have saved enough seed for the next 10 years

so can afford to risk a few to sow now !

If they were grown amongst other squashes/marrows they probably cross pollinated and you might get a strange looking foul tasting thing....

* which would be frustrating as you could not repeat the cross !

I fully intend to chop their heads off

so it makes no never mind

I want to try some grafting methods for cukes onto squash roots and as I fully expect to kill most of them free seed is always a bonus
