You're too kind :)

Of course, in the media, Dahling, we have to be careful of our image. I'm looking for a long cigarette holder to put my roll-ups in :)

i may have missed the point, but was he not saying... look if you get together this is what you can do. you can get your own eggs and meat.

it wasnt about giving them handouts but teaching them how they can eat free range by doing it yourself. and by doing it together the outlay is minimal per family but with great results.

he has given them a great start, but surely he cant be expected to subsidise them forever

I agree Babe - but given their circumstances he should have covered the start up costs without question and then let them take over.  They needed a shed and he seemed to think that they could somehow magic up the resources to buy one at short notice.  In the long term of course they should be able to make the project self financing or even profit sharing. I know that the outlay for a small shed would be minimal but some families don't have any spare money at all.

Or to ring up XYZ Sheds Ltd and say "This is HFW from Channel 4, we'd like a shed supplied and built here and you will appear on TV"

You wait til the BBC track down Munty n Aggy starting up a smallholding.

If they got married they could double-barrel their surnames and create a viable and far more entertaining alternative to HFW!

And I'm sure we'd be in for some free sheds too.

LOTS of people use their 'celebrity' or whatever for raising awareness of things that they do feel passionately about; it isn't always about making money.

I've always thought HFW was a complete posh toff with too much money and not living in the real world, with no money worries or such like, but I really rate him now and not just from this current show.  some thing good will definately come from this programme.  People can now make a more informed choice of whether or not they buy cheap chickens from super markets

HFW may well "sell" programmes to make money but he could easily have made a few million from endorsing Tesco or another big chain. What this programme should achieve is a better awareness of the horrendous conditions endured by farm animals in the interests of cheap, disposable (we discard over 30% of all we buy) foodstuffs. I get really peed off at the misguided animal rights campaigners chasing over the countryside to disrupt hunts when millions of animals suffer a lifetime of cruelty on farms.
Virtually every user of this site knows that improved welfare conditions equal better products.
Let's not get distracted by HFW's success (fair play to him). We should be asking why the major producers refuse to co-operate and even issue warnings to the one stockman who agreed to assist the project.
